I would not live alway; I ask not to stay

Where storm after storm rises dark o'er the way;

The few lurid mornings that dawn on us here

cheer

The verse on Archibald's tombstone is the first verse of the hymn I Would Not Live Alway. Interestingly, the second verse appears on his wife's (Catharine McCulloh) tombstone.
